Better than a Hallelujah Song

Elizabeth's treatment team met on Wednesday. Their main concern at this time is her cognition. There are some issues with her balance as well- but her cognitive function, ie personality, perception, memory etc is the top worry. She has been having additional ongoing testing regarding that yesterday and today. Please spend some extra time in prayer that this area of Elizabeth's brain would heal completely and that she will be the same girl that we all knew and loved 1 month ago.

Elizabeth has been very discouraged. Wednesday night she was very upset and is growing weary of the therapy and the hospital. She wants to be normal and understands that she is sick. Please be in prayer for her encouragement and hope.  Take time to drop her a card in the mail or post something here in the comments section. The family has just started to have some time to read each of the comments and they have received such a blessing from your encouraging words.

On a positive note, Elizabeth has been walking on a treadmill this week, with supports. On Wednesday she walked about 11 minutes with a small break in the middle! We are so proud of our girl! She seems to be progressing very well with skills like walking and this is still a very good sign that her brain is continuing to heal. One day this week while she was standing up with her therapist, she began singing "Standing on the Promises of God." Elizabeth is still praising our Father despite the terrible storm she is going through right now. We can all learn from her faith.

Elizabeth's best friend Becca arrived home yesterday from the hospital... on her 24th birthday! (I think it is really neat that these 3 best friends celebrate birthdays within a month of each other! Courtney's birthday was September 12, the day of the accident. E's was one week later.)  Becca is recovering at her parent's house in Jonesboro. She will be out for a while while her leg heals and they are certain that the infection has been taken care of. When Elizabeth was told that Becca was going to have to have surgery on her leg, she told Rachel that she wanted to give Becca her leg! It's just like that sweet girl to be thinking of others. And just like her to do ANYTHING for Becca or Courtney!

I love the song by Amy Grant, "Better than a Hallelujah Song." I have posted the link for you to listen but here is what sticks out to me that I pray we remember...
We pour out our miseries,
God just hears a melody.
Beautiful the mess we are,
the honest cries of breaking hearts...

God LOVES to hear our cries. He has been faithful to hear us and answer. A month has passed and we are all ready for Elizabeth to be whole again, but God is going to heal her in His time! We must continue to pray and have faith!

PRAISE. Becca's healing and that she is home recovering.
PRAISE. Elizabeth's healing and progress that she has made in therapy.
PRAY. Elizabeth's continued healing- her cognitive function and mental abilities would return.
PRAY. Elizabeth would continue to progress in therapy and would be doing more on her own.
PRAY. For E's encouragement and hope. Pray that God would fill her with love and that He would never leave her side. Pray that she wouldn't be sad and that she would be motivated.
PRAY. Pray that in Jesus' name Elizabeth would be healed!
PRAY. Pray that we would not grow weary in crying out to our Father. He is capable of healing Elizabeth and wants to bear our burden and heartache.

"Do not fear, for I am with you; do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, surely I will help you, surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand."
 Isaiah 41:10

  2. I am so glad to get word, thank you again Heather for your dedication. I know we are instructed not to be anxious, but I have to confess, I was anxious to hear of E. There are sooo many of us in Christ dear E that you may never meet nor know, but please let your heart be filled, Filled at least with the knowledge you are loved, you are a gift, you have been a positive influence on others for Christ! Physically we can not help carry this burden, but please know our hearts our minds and our prayers are filled with hope, love, and encouragement for strength, for endurance, to face this test, endure this test and overcome this trial. Jesus was tested, stay stedfast! Phil 3:14 I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

  6. Dear Elizabeth - I read once that Prayer does not change God, but it changes him who prays -

Elizabeth, so many people are praying for your strength and endurance during this time of rehab, draw strength knowing so many are closer to our God, praying for your recovery. I check your blog every day and am joyous at all the great progress you are making. Janet

  11. Elizabeth... You are a strong person. You will do what it takes to get back to your old self. On the days when you are too weary to go any further, the love of Christ and all the people who love you will carry you through.

We love you so much and are praying for you!

  13. Good morning Elizabeth :) we have thought about you constantly and are praying for you many times a day. Yesterday we were flying home from Houston and you were on my mind A LOT. I hate to think about you ever feeling discouraged because you are such a happy person that always lights up a room in an instant!

I was reading in Psalm 51 a few minutes later on the plane, and verse 12 and 13 said this: RESTORE TO ME THE JOY OF YOUR SALVATION AND GRANT ME A WILLING SPIRIT TO SUSTAIN ME. Verse 13 goes on to say Then I will teach transgressors your ways and sinners will turn back to you.

Wow! E, I am so thankful for your profession of faith years ago--may you be filled with joy because of that decision alone and because of what that means! But my prayer is also for God to grant you that willing spirit to sustain you and to
endure the weeks of therapy! And our prayers are offered up in faith believing for a complete and total recovery and then as verse thirteen said, for you to teach trangressors about His ways so that they will know that same salvation. It is a
blessing what God has already done through your family these last few weeks, but I suspect He is up to much more! Hold tight, and keep believing, persevere to the finish, because we know that in ALL things, God works together for the good of those that love him!

Hugs and Kisses to your whole family!
    In Christ,

  14. I am visiting in Wichita KS and late yesterday afternoon was the MOST brilliant, beautiful, bright, magnificant double rainbow, just another reminder that This is the day that the Lord hath made, rejoice (in it) and be glad in it! Majestic is His Name. He loves you E, your family and friends love you, all of us-your brothers and sisters in Christ love you. Stay strong dear E, this chapter in life is not fun, is not pleasant, but stand fast and overcome, when the day is hard, let your determination BE STRONGER! You can do hard! I continually pray that this burden will be lifted off of you and others will be brought into a relationship with Christ because of it. God Bless You, Jan in MO.

  15. hey i'm pretty sure we don't know each other. last year my life changed forever. i had an accident and broke my neck and i'm paralyzed from my shoulders down. at first i was down askin, "why me?" but afer i saw how many people were praying for me and supporting me my whole outlook changed. you have to realize that this kind of stuff isn't a curse its a blessing. now everyday of your life is an oppurtunity. an oppurtunity to defy the odds and do something great. i lknow how tough it is but you can't give up. you're odviously an amazing person with all of these people praying for you and supporting you. some days are gonna be harder than others. you just have to remind yourself about this gift you've been given to be great with the world watching you. i pary that you make a full recovery and look back and can smile at all you have been through.
